Winfield, a small city in south-central Kansas, once ran its own horsecar line under the Union Street Railway Company, and this print shows one of those cars. Horsecars rolled along iron rails, pulled by teams of horses or mules, and were a common form of city transit in the late 1800s until electric trolleys replaced them in many towns. The caption card gives no date, and its details have not been verified, so the exact year remains uncertain. The print belongs to the Wittemann Collection at the Library of Congress.
