Marianne, the national emblem of France, stands at the center of this 1919 color lithograph beneath the warning "Souvenez-vous! 1914. Rien d'Allemand!" (Remember! 1914. Nothing German!). The poster links the German bombardment of Reims in 1914, which damaged the city's famous cathedral and much of its historic center, to the postwar mood in France, when many people wanted to shun German goods. It was signed by E. Lemielle and sponsored by a federation of cooperatives concerned with war damage. Its message reflects how wartime grievances were turned into lasting public feeling after the armistice.
