Hazelton's 1914 lithograph shows a running figure beneath the words "Men wanted for the Army," with the recruiting station address left blank so local offices could fill it in. Before the United States entered the First World War in 1917, the Army was small, and posters like this were a main way it sought volunteers. The stamp from a Local Board for Division No. 1 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, suggests the sheet later passed through a draft office, which shows how wartime recruiting materials were reused as the country mobilized.
