A boy defending his flag gives this c1898 chromolithograph its character, and the title, *Don't touch my flag!*, states the message outright. The date places it near the Spanish-American War, when American flags and patriotic imagery were everywhere. Chromolithography built rich color from many stone impressions, which made scenes like this affordable for family parlors, schoolrooms and shop walls. The print's copyright belongs to W.D. Henderson, a reminder of the many artists and firms that supplied the period's popular patriotic pictures.
