Made for a Flag Day event in Elmhurst, Illinois, on June 18, 1939, this poster ties a local patriotic observance to the centennial of DuPage County, which was organized in 1839. It was produced as a color silkscreen by the WPA Federal Art Project in Chicago, one of the Depression-era New Deal programs that employed artists to make posters for public events and services. The record credits the design to an artist named Beauparlant. Such posters were printed in small runs and pasted up around towns, so surviving copies show how communities advertised their celebrations in the late 1930s.
