This color lithograph advertises "The World's Great Sandwinas," with the caption "The wonder of female strength," a line that points to the act's central attraction. The Sandwinas were a husband-and-wife strength act who toured circuses and music halls in the early 1900s, when a woman performing feats of lifting and balance drew large crowds. The poster was printed in Hamburg in 1905 by Adolph Friedländer, a lithographer known for the bold color circus posters he produced for touring shows. Its large size, 96 by 71 centimeters, reflects how these posters were built to be read from a distance.
