The record names East Vidette, a peak in the Southern Sierra, and this gelatin silver print comes from a portfolio called *Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras*, made between 1920 and 1927. Its subject tags also place the scene in Yosemite Valley, a glacier-carved valley that had drawn photographers since the late 1800s. Portfolios like this one were meant for viewers who would never reach the high country on foot, so they served as both records of the landscape and armchair introductions to it.
