Native hunters are shown wearing whole deerskins, antlers and all, so they could stalk herds at close range. The scene comes from Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues, a French artist who traveled to Florida in the 1560s during the short-lived French Huguenot colony there. His watercolors of the region's peoples and landscapes were later turned into engravings, and this one appeared in the 1603 German edition of the Florida account, published by Theodor de Bry. The print is valued as one of the few visual records of Timucuan life before the colony was destroyed by Spanish forces in 1565.
