The only name this glass negative carries is "Coach McAllister," a title written on the glass or its sleeve by the National Photo Company, and the Library of Congress notes it has not been verified, so the sitter's identity remains uncertain. The picture dates to 1924, when the company, based in Washington, D.C., photographed scenes across American cities and sold the views to newspapers and publishers. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the collection in 1947. Look closely and you will see streaks and blemishes, the result of the original coatings deteriorating over the decades.
