The record gives only the title "Speaker," with no name, so the man at the center of this 1924 Cleveland image remains unidentified. That year Cleveland hosted the Republican National Convention, drawing delegates, party officials and reporters to the city, and a speaker photographed there would likely have been part of that busy political scene. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented news and civic life across the country in the early twentieth century, made the negative on glass. Viewers should also note the streaks and blemishes caused by the natural breakdown of the original coating, which affect the image's clarity.
