Advertising a second edition of a farce called *Shantytown*, this 1898 poster promises new material, comedians, and "pretty girls," the stock draws of the musical comedy and variety stage of the day. It was printed in color under the Russell-Morgan imprint, a Cincinnati firm that produced large lithographs for touring theatrical companies. Posters like this one were pasted on walls and billboards in cities such as New York to bring audiences to the box office, and today they show how live entertainment was sold to the public before film and radio.
