Near Dallas, Texas, the title places this stereograph in the cotton country that the phrase "King Cotton" describes, and its record credits the Philadelphia firm Berry, Kelley & Chadwick, with a copyright by E.W. Kelley, around 1907. Stereo cards like this were sold in large numbers and viewed through a stereoscope, so scenes such as this reached home parlors as a form of armchair travel. The cotton pickers the subject headings name were largely African American laborers working under tenant and wage arrangements that followed Reconstruction, and the card is worth reading with that history in mind, including how commercial images of the period often framed such work.
