Here the man at the center is the draw: a small inset portrait of Col. W. F. Cody sits within a bold lithograph under the words "I am coming," a teaser line meant to build anticipation before the show reached town. The Courier Lithograph Co. printed the sheet in 1900, and it belongs to the wave of advertising for Buffalo Bill's Wild West, the touring spectacle of riders, sharpshooters and frontier reenactments that Cody had launched in 1883. Posters like this were pasted on barns, fences and walls ahead of each visit, and their saturated color was designed to catch the eye from across a street.
