Among the many treatments of Franklin D. Roosevelt's four freedoms, this etching by Ralph Fabri stands out for its cornucopia, the horn of plenty that signals freedom from want, set alongside the subjects of speech and religion. Roosevelt named the four freedoms in his January 1941 address to Congress, and the idea was soon taken up across American art and wartime propaganda. Fabri's print is dated 1943, the year Norman Rockwell's widely reproduced paintings of the freedoms appeared in *The Saturday Evening Post*. The pencil signature and the edition number, 25 of 100, mark it as one of a limited run.
