Hunting Horse, a Kiowa man, appears here with his daughters in a studio-style portrait taken by Dedrick of Taloga, Oklahoma, around 1908. The image survives as a postcard, a popular format at the time, when photographers in western Oklahoma sold views of local residents to friends and to visitors curious about the region's Native families. The record notes the family's clothing and dress, which is one of the main things to look at. Kiowa families in this period were living under the changes that followed the reservation's breakup, so portraits like this one record how people presented themselves in those years.
