An eagle holding two American flags frames the busts of William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt in this steel engraving, which is catalogued as a campaign device from the 1900 presidential contest. The Republicans had renominated McKinley in June 1900 with Roosevelt, then governor of New York, as his running mate, so the pairing reflects that ticket. Printed images like this one, often meant for banners, pamphlets and parlor display, were a common way parties promoted candidates before the election. The record's date of July 2 comes from an older caption card and has not been independently verified.
