Hotel Punta Gorda stood in a town on the Peace River's mouth at Charlotte Harbor, on Florida's southwest Gulf coast, where the arrival of railroad lines in the mid-1880s helped turn a small settlement into a winter destination. This 1890 view is a Kodak card photograph, a small print from the early years of the snapshot camera, when amateurs and commercial photographers alike began recording everyday places.
