Hotel Biscayne appears here as a street-facing view of a Miami hotel, a subject that sets it apart from the harbor and beach scenes common in the city's early publications. The image was reproduced as a photogravure for *Glimpses of Miami, Florida*, a souvenir booklet issued by the Albertype Company of Brooklyn around 1904. Henry Flagler's railroad had reached Miami in 1896, and hotels like this one catered to winter visitors arriving from the North during the town's early growth. Albertype specialized in photomechanical reproductions of local views, so the plate offers a detailed record of the streetscape and the hotel's appearance in those formative years.
