The Cleveland Mine stood near Hazel Green, a village in Grant County in southwestern Wisconsin, part of a lead-mining district that had drawn prospectors since the 1820s. This c1915 panoramic gelatin silver print, about 8 by 41.5 inches, is wide enough to show a mine site and the ground around it in one sweep. The Lighty Photo Co. of Williamsport, Indiana, registered the picture for copyright on November 26, 1915, which suggests a commercial studio made it. The long format suited a working landscape like this one.
