Published in Cleveland by J.F. Ryder and credited to the artist A.M. Willard, this chromolithograph takes the old tune "Yankee Doodle" as its theme and ties it to the nation's 1876 centennial. It appeared in a year when Americans filled parades, exhibitions and parlors with Revolutionary imagery. Chromolithographs like this one brought color and sentiment into ordinary homes at modest cost. The print's mix of good humor and patriotism shows how the Revolution was being remembered a century after the fact.
