Titled "A Son of the Ould Sod," this card presents older people in Galway, on Ireland's west coast, through a sentimental phrase that evoked the homeland for Irish emigrants and their American audiences. Philadelphia publisher C.H. Graves issued it around 1904, when stereo cards were viewed in parlors through a stereoscope that gave the scene a sense of depth. Many such cards mixed documentary observation with romanticized images of rural life, and this one is worth noticing for how it blends the two.
