Unlike the many WPA posters that advertised concerts or plays, this silkscreen promotes the third annual exhibition of the Sioux City Camera Club, held in 1940 in Iowa. The Federal Art Project's poster units printed thousands of such color posters, using silkscreen, a stencil method that was inexpensive to run and suited to bold, flat shapes, to publicize events in towns across the country. A date stamp on the back reads July 5, 1940. Its place in the Library of Congress's WPA Poster Collection makes it a useful record of how local photography and art groups found public audiences during the Depression.
