Balloon ascensions were a popular public spectacle in the 1880s, and this advertisement borrows that excitement for Excelsior ginger ale, as its title, "Up and going," suggests. The print is linked to John Klee of Dayton, Ohio, and to Joseph R. Peebles' Sons of Cincinnati, and its copyright entry is dated August 29, 1885. Lithographed trade prints like this one were given away and posted in shop windows, which is why so many from the decade survive. The attribution comes from an older shelflist card and has not been fully verified.
