An American balloon called *Conqueror* is shown bursting aloft over Berlin, apparently at the moment its envelope gave way. The 1908 date places the picture in the years when international ballooning contests drew large crowds and newspaper attention, and Berlin hosted the Gordon Bennett Cup that year. The Bain News Service title is recorded as unverified, so the exact circumstances of the rupture are best read with that caveat in mind.
