Church Street in Belfast, Maine, appears here as seen from Spring Street, a vantage that frames the town's streetscape and rooflines. The photograph is credited to Charles A. Townsend and dated between about 1905 and 1909, though those details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified. Belfast, a harbor town on Penobscot Bay, built much of its economy on shipbuilding, shipping and trade in the 19th century, and views like this one preserve how its residential and church streets looked in the early 20th century.
