A train runs through a coffee plantation, or *cafetal*, at Temasdia in this view, a setting that pairs the rail line with the agricultural land it was built to serve. The print is attributed to photographer William Henry Jackson, who made many views of Mexico in the 1880s and 1890s, much of it tied to the expansion of the country's railroads. The date of about 1895 is a caption-card estimate and has not been confirmed. Railways like this one carried coffee and other crops from plantations to markets and ports, so the scene shows how rail reshaped rural production.
