Looking up from the grounds, this view isolates the lantern at the top of Block Island Southeast Light, the glass-walled room that once held the beacon guiding ships past the island's southeastern shore. The tower stands on Mohegan Bluffs, roughly 200 feet above the Atlantic, which made its light visible to mariners far offshore. Erosion along the bluffs has since forced the lighthouse to be moved inland, a reminder of how quickly this coastline changes.
