Taken from one of the granite towers, this view runs along the Brooklyn Bridge, which opened in 1883 and linked Manhattan with Brooklyn across the East River. It belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a news photography agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The caption card dates it roughly to 1907 to 1915, though that information is unverified, so the exact moment remains uncertain. The bridge's cables and arches were a favorite subject for photographers documenting the city's growing skyline and busy waterfront.
