Unlike the illustrated recruiting posters that dominate this board, this one is pure text, its only image a small royal coat of arms bearing the device of King George V. Issued in London by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, it is numbered sixth in its series and makes a direct appeal: offer your services now, because the soldiers at the front need help. The plain wording reflects the committee's aim of reaching men through print and the authority of the Crown, at a time when volunteering was Britain's main way of raising an army, before conscription began in 1916.
