Catherine Breshkovsky, the Russian revolutionary known as "Babushka" or the grandmother of the Russian Revolution, is the subject named in this glass negative's caption, "Cath. Breshkovsky." She spent much of her life in Russian prisons and exile for her work with the Socialist Revolutionaries before the 1917 upheaval brought her back to public life, and she later that year made a widely covered tour of the United States to win support for the new Russian government. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with pictures, produced the negative, and its titles were often compiled from caption cards, so the identification is worth checking against other sources.
