This 1932 ink drawing records the Cox theater, also known as the George B. Cox Memorial theater, on East 7th Street in Cincinnati, Ohio, where it stood beside the Shubert theater. The pairing reflects how that stretch of the street became a concentration of playhouses and movie houses in the late 1920s and 1930s. As a drawing rather than a photograph, the sheet shows the intended design and how the building would sit against its neighbor. Those years also brought sound film, which pushed many theaters to modernize their interiors and facades.
