The White Mountains of northern New Hampshire are the subject here, seen from far above in an aerial view that takes in the rolling ridgelines and valleys beneath the peaks. The range has drawn visitors since the 1800s, when hotels, rail lines and trail-building opened the high country to hikers, artists and summer travelers. Views like this one were especially prized because few people could see the terrain so completely, and they show how the forests, notches and roads fit together across the landscape.
