Signed by Francisque Poulbot, the illustrator best known for his sketches of scruffy Paris street children, this 1915 color lithograph carries the title *Journée du Poilu*. "Poilu," slang for the French infantryman of the First World War, names both the soldier and the day, which was organized under the auspices of the French parliament to raise support for the troops. The library catalogs the poster under the French Red Cross and under the economic and child-related aspects of the war in France, so it shows how civilian fundraising, and the children who took part in it, were woven into the wartime home front.
