Held the week of November 10 to 16, 1941, American Guide Week promoted the American Guide series, the state-by-state travel books the Federal Writers' Project had been producing since the late 1930s. The poster's slogan, "Take pride in your country," invites viewers to explore their own states, and the eagle, a long-standing emblem of national identity, reinforces that patriotic message. Printed in silkscreen, the design reflects the Work Projects Administration's broader effort to employ artists and bring public art to ordinary Americans. A date stamp on the back, November 6, 1941, shows it was in circulation just before the observance.
