Built around a bold eagle and the slogan "Take pride in your country," this 1941 silkscreen promoted American Guide Week, held November 10 to 16 and tied to the state-by-state work of the Federal Writers' Project. That Work Projects Administration program produced the American Guide series, a set of state travel guides that mixed history, geography, and local folklore during the late 1930s and early 1940s. The poster reflects the nation's growing focus on civic pride as the United States moved toward entry into World War II.
