Taken in Yonkers, a Hudson River city just north of New York City, this glass negative shows Theodore Roosevelt in October 1914, several years after he left the presidency. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied pictures to newspapers, made the negative, and its date places the image in a year when Roosevelt was active in Progressive Party politics. The place name comes from unverified caption data, so the exact occasion is worth checking, but the picture is a useful example of how press photographers documented former presidents.
