Four men share the title of this January 1923 negative: McAdoo, Harrison, Glass and Walsh, probably William Gibbs McAdoo, Carter Glass, Thomas J. Walsh and a Harrison serving in Congress at the time. Washington was still sorting out the aftermath of the First World War and the scandals of the Harding years, and Walsh would soon lead the Senate inquiry into Teapot Dome. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio, recorded the capital's officials and events, and this glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coating.
