A Borden team, which won the obstacle test at a New York work horse parade, is the subject of this June 1908 glass negative from the Bain News Service. Work horse parades of the period celebrated the draft and delivery animals that hauled goods through crowded city streets, and they urged owners to care for them well. Obstacle tests asked teams to maneuver through set courses, showing training and control as well as strength. The Bain collection, built by a New York news photographer and his service, preserves many such street scenes from the early twentieth century.
