The Borden team, a group of draft horses from the Borden dairy company, took first place in the obstacle test at this Work Horse Parade in New York. Parades like this one, held in the early 1900s, let city delivery companies show off well-kept animals and drew attention to the heavy work horses did hauling goods through crowded streets. The picture is a glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency whose pictures documented city life in those years. The title comes from the agency's caption data, which has not been independently verified.
