The lights of the Pickwick Club along Canal Street make this c1898 view of Mardi Gras in New Orleans stand apart. Canal Street was the wide central boulevard where Carnival parades passed, and clubs of the period often lit their buildings and floats with gas or electric lamps to turn the night into a spectacle. The print is credited to photographer John N. Neunisson, but the caption card that accompanied it is unverified, so its exact date and location should be treated with some caution.
