Although the gallery files it under farm equipment, this Boston lithograph titled *The mower* is catalogued among American political prints. D.C. Fabronius designed and lithographed it, and A. Trochsler printed it at 116 Washington Street around 1863, with the Library's impression deposited for copyright on December 15 of that year. Prints of this kind were common during the Civil War, when artists often used familiar scenes and objects as allegory to comment on public affairs. The farm-tool title therefore likely works as a figure of speech rather than a picture of agriculture.
