The title points to a steamboat pavilion at Jürgensby, a waterfront spot in Flensburg, the port city on the Flensburg Fjord near the Danish border. Photochrom prints like this one were made by a process developed by the Swiss firm Photoglob in Zürich, which combined a photographic negative with multiple stone lithograph passes to add color. The Detroit Publishing Company sold these views in America under its own catalog, and this example is numbered in its 1905 listing of German scenes. Such pavilions gave passengers shelter while they waited to board the small steamers that carried people along the fjord.
