Steamboat Rock, a sandstone formation in the Wisconsin River dells, takes its name from its resemblance to a paddle-wheeler's hull and pilothouse. This stereograph shows it from across the water, a vantage that captures the full profile of the rock. H.H. Bennett, a Wisconsin Dells photographer known for his stereo views of the region, issued the card under number 104. Around 1903 the Dells drew steady crowds of tourists, many arriving on excursion steamboats that carried them past these cliffs, so the card served as both a souvenir and a record of a sight visitors came to see.
