The title names a Prince Pi Lun of China, but the Library of Congress lists it as unverified, taken from notes Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its caption cards. The record gives no date, so the picture has to be placed by its source. The Bain agency supplied photographs to American newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its China views often show Qing-era princes and officials during the years when the imperial court was losing its hold. Viewers should weigh the caption against the image, since agency labels were sometimes written quickly and reused.
