Yosemite Falls, listed here at 2,634 feet, is shown from the Merced River, the vantage that made it a staple of nineteenth-century stereoviews. This card belongs to the "Glories of the Yosemite, California" series, number 145, issued by the publisher William I. Marshall in 1875. Marshall sold views like this to a public eager to see the Sierra wonders that few could reach in person, and the paired images of a stereo card gave the falls a sense of depth that a flat print could not. Its albumen surface and the valley's granite walls are worth noticing as a record of how these scenes were packaged for parlor viewing.
