A drawing whose record names Tokyo drawbridges and the foreign visitors who came to see them, a subject more specific than most pictures on this board. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period artist active from 1764 to 1788, does not match the 1750 date, and the subject range of 1850 to 1900 is later still, so the exact moment of the sketch is uncertain. The city was called Edo until 1868, when it became Tokyo and the capital, and the bridges that crossed its moats and canals were a sight that drew attention from travelers after the country opened to foreign trade.
