This glass negative bears the name Frank G. Carpenter, the travel writer whose syndicated newspaper letters took American readers across much of the world in the early twentieth century. The title comes from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, and the date is an estimate based on negatives from the same period. The 8 by 6 inch plate, part of the company's Washington, D.C., collection, shows streaks and blemishes typical of glass whose original coating has deteriorated with age.
