Shibe Park in Philadelphia was the home ballpark of Connie Mack's Athletics from its opening in 1909, and it was among the early major league parks built largely of concrete and steel. The record dates this view to October 1914, when the Athletics lost the World Series to the Boston Braves in four straight games. Bain News Service, the New York photo agency behind this glass-negative collection, sold pictures like this one to newspapers, so the frame was likely made for fast publication. The title and date come from the agency's own caption information and have not been independently verified.
