Thomas Edison stands with his wife and two other couples, though the record does not name the others. The picture survives as a small glass negative, and its catalog title notes that the plate is broken, a common fate for fragile glass that passed through many hands. It came from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with photographs in the early twentieth century. Edison's wife would have been Mina Miller Edison, his second wife, if the picture dates from after their 1886 marriage, but the record leaves the date and the couples' identities unverified.
