The Blue Room is the oval reception room on the ground floor of the White House, projecting from the south side toward the South Lawn. Its curved shape follows James Hoban's original design, and its French Empire-style furnishings reflect the taste of James Monroe, who refurnished the house after the 1814 fire. This print shows the room's fireplace and sofa from the 1910s, when it served as a formal setting for official receptions and visitors.
